The California Transparency in Supply Chains Act

The California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010 (SB 657) is designed to increase the amount of information made available to consumers regarding the efforts of manufacturers and retailers to address the issue of slavery and human trafficking. As a result, this legislation is providing the opportunity for brands like vineyard vines to engage in an important public dialogue about their efforts to eliminate human rights violations in the supply chain.
vineyard vines is committed to fair labor practices and to protecting the human rights of all individuals who take part in the manufacturing of our products. The Social Compliance Agreement that we enter into with each of the vendors, contractors, agents and factories that produce goods for vineyard vines (each, a "Production Partner") sets forth our Social Compliance Policies, including our requirement that no Production Partner use involuntary or forced labor.
While vineyard vines recognizes that there are different legal and cultural environments in which our Production Partners operate throughout the world, these Social Compliance Policies set forth the basic requirements that all Production Partners must meet in order to do business with vineyard vines. vineyard vines strongly encourages all of our Production Partners to not just meet but to exceed these policies and to promote best practices and continuous improvement.
Verification - We work with industry organizations and our supply chain partners to evaluate, understand and address the risks of human rights violations in the supply chain. Each Production Partner must agree to and comply with our Social Compliance Agreement as a non-negotiable condition to doing business with vineyard vines.
Auditing - Each Production Partner is required to maintain on-site documentation as evidence of their compliance with the Social Compliance Agreement. vineyard vines will take affirmative measures, such as announced or un-announced on-site inspections of a Production Partner's facilities to ensure compliance. A third party, on behalf of vineyard vines, typically conducts these independent audits. In connection with any inspection, a Production Partner must allow vineyard vines or its representative unfettered access to its facilities and relevant records, as well as its employees for confidential interviews.
Certification - To ensure that our Production Partners respect and enforce our Social Compliance Policies, each Production Partner is required to contractually agree to abide by our Social Compliance Policies as a condition of doing business with vineyard vines and as a means of self-certification. We further require each Production Partner to maintain on-site documentation as evidence of compliance with our Social Compliance Policies, including without limitation, a Production Partner's compliance with applicable laws relating to involuntary or forced labor.
Accountability - Non-compliance with our Social Compliance Policies will result in corrective action. Our internal production and compliance teams, with appropriate assistance from industry organizations and our third party auditors, will attempt to work with any non-compliant Production Partner to develop an action plan to remediate non-compliance. Any violation of our Social Compliance Policies will be remedied at the cost of the non-compliant Production Partner. Failure to comply with our Social Compliance Policies may ultimately result in the termination of the business relationship between vineyard vines and a Production Partner.
Training and education - We work with industry organizations to keep up to date with and informed about the latest developments and regulations relating to the protection of human rights in the supply chain, including slavery and human trafficking. We have also confirmed that our agents regularly provide training on human rights violations to our Production Partners and/or their employees.
